Putting Male & Female Cockatoo Together? Help Please!?
I’m getting two new birds. An Umbrella Cockatoo and a Sulpher-Crested Cockatoo. A rescue not far from me can’t afford to take care of them, and is offering them for free with their cage. They are male and female. They are not a breeding pair, they just have been together for most of their lives.

I want to know what I should do about their situation. I do not want eggs from them, but they have been together for 30+ years. I have another large cage so I could separate them, but I don’t want to cause stress on the birds. I need some input from other bird lovers and owners about what I should do with these guys. **Note: They are not at my house yet, as I need to rearrange the room the cage(s) will be in.

even tho the have been together for a long time i would separate them but put there cages very close and get them out together so they can interact but i have posted a website to show you what a cockatoo can do to another cockatoo even being with each other for 12 years but i now you don’t want to breed but just to to convince you if others say its ok to keep them together

ps one of the pics is a bit disturbing

Before you adopt them, spend lots of time at the shelter to find out what problems they have, and whether you like each other. Take the advice of the shelter attendants about how to house them. If you have never had birds before, start with a smaller bird. Cockatoos are often turned in to shelters because they demand much attention, scream and feather pick if they don’t get it, and become hard to manage. They are beautiful, but not for beginners.
